Comfortable atmos­phere and safety

Light makes happy — at any age

For elderly and visually impaired people, well-lit rooms are partic­u­larly important. This was defi­nitely not the case in the Compe­tence Centre for the Elderly in Hitzkirch before the reno­vation. The management set itself the goal of complying with the new guide­lines of the Swiss Lighting Society for lighting suitable for the elderly and visually impaired, thus giving the resi­dents a sense of security and creating a pleasant atmos­phere. In concrete terms, this means 300 lux in the corridors during the day, 750 lux in the reading area and a high proportion of indirect light in the common rooms.
Demanded, done! Together with Otto Fischer AG, who managed the project, we developed a lighting concept that met all the require­ments. The result: everyone who lives or works in Chrüzmatt is happy with the new, friendly lighting.

Turning rooms into a home through light.

Solution

The lighting in the corridors came to 150 lux before the reno­vation of the old-age and care centre from the 1980s. Dark floors and a colour concept that made the floors distin­guishable made the corridors look small and confining.
We placed round LED lumi­naires in such a way that the prescribed luminous intensity of 300 lux is main­tained in front of the room doors and the corridors are well illu­mi­nated throughout. We also use the same type of lumi­naire, just a bit bigger, in the pedes­trian zones.
The lumi­naires are controlled by radio and programmed accord­ingly. In addition, motion detectors were installed in the corridors.
installed in the corridors. When a person enters the corridor, it auto­mat­i­cally gets brighter. When there is no movement and at night, the lumi­naires’ output is set to 10 percent. The light is also adapted to the course of daylight.
The new lighting contributes enor­mously to a homely atmos­phere. And the energy balance is also impressive: Thanks to constant light control and presence detection, up to 70% energy can be saved.

Ayana and Aluna — a strong team

It’s the combi­nation that makes the difference. In retirement and care centres, but also in schools, offices or traffic zones, the two lumi­naires can be perfectly combined.
Ayana is a simple acrylic glass lumi­naire available in three different sizes. The fabric lumi­naire Aluna, also available in three sizes, is more versatile than any other. It is available as a pendant and ceiling light and the fabric colour can be indi­vid­ually selected. Both lumi­naires have constant light control and presence detection and are also available with adjustable light colour (Tunable White) to emulate the natural course of daylight.
