Continuing education in the right light

The Migros Club School in Wetzikon has been at a new location since August 2022. As diverse as the Klubschule’s offering is, the demands on the course rooms and the corre­sponding lighting are just as high. Take the movement room, for example: the same lighting condi­tions are not needed for a mind­fulness course as for a dance workout. Other class­rooms also need more or less light, depending on the course content.
What was needed was an effi­cient lighting control system in which the course instructors could intervene manually if necessary. With the True-Presence presence detector from STEINEL, we chose a sensor that meets this need. And one that guar­antees excellent illu­mi­nation at any time of day or year and opti­mises energy consumption.
Instal­lation and oper­ation are so simple that no course is needed.

Presence detectors that take their job seriously.

Solution

The different uses of the course rooms require different yet ideal lighting condi­tions. That is why we have divided the lumi­naires in each room into two lighting groups.
Each lighting group has a push-button that is connected to the corre­sponding master presence detector. The sensors are configured in semi-auto­matic mode and allow full flex­i­bility in oper­ating and controlling the lights. The course leaders switch the lighting on and off via push-buttons and can also dim it if required. If there is suffi­cient daylight, the lighting switches off auto­mat­i­cally. The presence detector detects the presence or absence of people just as reliably. However, lights do not suddenly go out during a relaxed medi­tation without movement. As a true presence detector, it even perceives physical micro-move­ments of the body such as the breathing-related rising and falling of the chest.

What do we have in common with the partic­i­pants of the Klub­schule Wetzikon? We continue to develop.
With True Presence, we have entered a new era of building sensor tech­nology. However, sensors in intel­ligent buildings of the future go far beyond light switching, building control and opti­mi­sation of energy consumption. The many possi­bil­ities must be exploited. That is what we are investing in.

True Presence

Lights on, lights off: the timing is right

True Presence from STEINEL is the world’s first true presence detector.
The tech­nology is based on the finest high-frequency measure­ments of the surroundings. In this way, the presence detector detects the presence of a person, no matter what they are doing. Micro-move­ments such as breathing or slight shoulder move­ments are suffi­cient to register presence.
True Presence provides the digital infor­mation about presence or absence, elim­i­nating unnec­essary overrun times. This in turn has an extremely positive effect on elec­tricity costs. The sensors can be controlled via app and wire­lessly networked via Bluetooth.
